“Not only are bloggers suckers for the remarkable, so are the people who read blogs.” - Seth Godin
BOOSTER BYTE 45
Part of impulse control is shutting your mouth before a lie can escape. If seeking the truth is a component of your cause and purpose, then this should be no problem. If the truth doesn’t paint such a pretty picture, do not try to spin it or embellish it to lessen the damage. The error of omission is just as bad. Such cover-ups are obvious anyway. They only beg the question, what else aren’t you telling us? It casts a pall of incredulity over everything else you say.
However, often there are times when the LEADER cannot disclose certain truths. Perhaps the company is involved in an on-going lawsuit. Maybe it is involved in constructing spy satellites and cannot discuss the nature of its latest contract with the National Reconnaissance Office. There are a number of credible reasons you may be unable to disclose the entire situation. If you find yourself in this predicament, then say so.
An honest answer does a number of things, including creating a high level of credibility for you. It also puts a stop to such questions and gives an honest, real reason why. Honest answers almost always make you look good, even when the news isn’t the best.
